日本人の美意識とともに培われてきた伝統工芸、組紐。
組紐作家の鳥居美和さんは、伝統的な技法や和のしきたり、配色をベースに、現代の暮らしにも楽しめる品を制作されています。
組紐は「編む」「織る」に並び「組む」という工程から生まれる組み組織をもつもので、数種類の専用道具で組んでいき、その種類は百種類以上になります。
あらゆる紐の中でもっとも美術的なものが組紐です。
文化として組紐が今日まで受け継がれているのは、日本とペルーだけだそうです。
日本においては5,500年〜6,000年前(縄文前期)の古墳からも組紐が発掘されており、とても古い歴史があります。
日本では伝統的工芸品に指定されており、仏具、武具、着物、茶道具、調度品などに幅広く使われています。
その中でも、正倉院、法隆寺、厳島神社、中尊寺などには歴史上の名品が残されています。
古来より日本では「結び」という事に精神的、神秘的、呪術的な意味があり、それが独自の組紐文化を発展させてきたのではないかと考えられています。
Kumihimo has a long history and originates from 5500-6000 years ago(the Jomon Era) . Some braided cords were found in ancient burial mounds
Kumihimo is designated the Traditional Craft Industries and has been used in many fields such as Buddhist altar articles, panoply, Kimono, tea utensils, furnishings and so on.
Especially some Kumihimo which are historically significant are conserved in Shosoin, Horyuji Temple, Itsukushima Shrine, and Chusonji Temple.
Since ancient times, Japanese people have considered binding cords as mystical, spiritual or magical action..
That's why Kumihimo has been developed in an original way.
